Day Thirty: Ueno Park again and Akihabara

Brunch at Ueno Park again and some more rides and icecream for the small one ... who by the way IS sick. There's always a reason for her being a brat and being sick is a good one. I guess so I forgive her for being a brat last night. Ant thinks she got a cold from a Spanish boy on the plane that she briefly played with. The pic above is our Pizza joint :)

We then got a train to Akihabara to check out the electronics district. Somehow we end up with a bike for Charlie for her birthday. She rides it home and keeps saying "I like it Mummy, I like it Daddy". Everyone smiles when they see her... it's dark, ad she is so cute and it's a full on bike and she's pushing buttons and dancing to the music it plays as she rides with lights flashing in time. It says stuff in Japanese (we have no idea what). The credit card is now maxed.

We didn't get this bike even though Ant really wanted it and thought it would have excellent street cred.

Charlie liked this one. "I like this one Mummy! I like this one!"

Happy (early) 2nd Birthday Charlie!!

Japanese MacDonalds. Nothing to write home about but it was quick and on the way home. The staff here bow very very low to customers. Not sure why it's different here to other places.

Back to the hotel room around 8pm ... we all wake up at 2 am and go buy icecream 'cos we can't sleep. Ant carries Charlie on his shoulders and bonks her head in the hotel hallway divider on the way back 'BONK!!' and she's on the ground (so funny .. the sound .... but poor Charlie hehe) ... she's a tough cookie though and she is A-OK in a few minutes :) We spend hours giggling and playing and shushing her until the sugar high wears off. She's a lot of fun when she's high hahhaa.
This is what happens when you give an almost 2 year old icecream at 2am.

The door notices for sleeping and eco clean request copped it bigtime. She's like a bloody puppy dog. She even ee's on the floor like one sometimes lol!

Talking to 'Poppy' to tee up an early pickup from the airport.

It's nice knowing we are going home soon and we are sortof out of the 'mad dash to see things mode' and just chilling out in Tokyo. It feels quite 'normal' already and we have figured out a few of the customs now. For example, when you buy something, you are supposed to put the money in a little tray on the counter with both hands and bow a little. There is sometimes a little painted rock to hold notes down. The shop keeper then takes it and says "Arigato Gozaimas" and bows a bit deeper than you. After you get over initial nervousness it's very easy to work things out even with no language.

The people around here are friendly and helpful and polite by nature so you feel good even when we bumble along with our iPhone Japanese. Konichiwa and Arigato Gozaimas go a long way!! I really like the Japanese people and I'm very keen to learn Japanese as well as French now. The pronunciation is really straight forward compared to French! Here when you learn something you hear it often and it sounds the same. French sounds so different depending on who is speaking.
